Calibration

Calibrating your device for NeuroVisual Trainer

NeuroVisual Trainer works on any internet-connected device, including desktop computers, laptops & touch-screen tablets, such as iPad (smartphone screens, unfortunately, are too small for our interactive Exercises, but they work just fine for Videos). Before you use any of NVT's Interactive Exercises, your device must be properly calibrated to optimize the program for your display.

    • Because Calibration settings are saved in your internet browser, it's important not to use Private Browsing or Incognito Mode; since these browser options do not save information, you will have to recalibrate every time you log in.
    • Similarly, if you clear your browser's cache or delete cookies, you may have to recalibrate the next time you log in.

  • Clinic staff and Patients can start by clicking "Calibrate" near the bottom-left of the screen:

Calibrate your device in just four easy steps:

Screen Height

  • Step 1 tells NVT the vertical height of your screen.
    • iPad should be in horizontal or landscape orientation.
  • Hold a standard size credit card up to your screen, and adjust the slider until the size of the image on screen matches the actual card.
    • Alternatively, you can measure the vertical height of your screen with a ruler, and adjust the measurements manually using the arrow buttons (NVT automatically converts cm to inches):

  • Click CONTINUE.

Working Distance

  • Step 2 tells NVT the default average distance from the screen to your eyeballs.
    • NVT will make an educated guess as to the appropriate working distance based on the screen height you entered, but you can adjust this manually:

  • Click CONTINUE.

Anaglyph Glasses

  • NVT's Interactive Exercises work with any anaglyph glasses. In step 3, just click to indicate which ones you have!

  • Click CONTINUE.

Colour Calibration

  • Step 4 ensures that your screen is displaying colours at the optimal brightness to be properly cancelled by your anaglyph glasses.
    • Read the instructions carefully; covering one eye at a time, adjust the sliders for the opposing colors until the calibration dots are just barely visible.
    • Some tips for this final step:
      • Make sure the screen brightness on your device is turned up nice and high.
      • Ensure that any "Night Shift" modes or similar functions that alter the color or brightness of your screen when you will be doing your Exercises have been disabled.

  • Don't forget to Click DONE at the bottom to save these settings!

  • In some cases, even when everything has been done according to the directions above, the coloured calibration dots are still not visible through some anaglyph glasses; this simply means that your glasses cancel their colours really well! Launch one of your exercises to test your results.
    • NVT's Vectographs are a perfect test; if the image looks 3-D, you're all set!

Tips for getting good cancellation

1. Some laptops dynamically set the screen brightness depending on battery levels or ambient light, so adjusting the colour calibration before each session can make sure things are in-tune with the current screen brightness.

2. If you're using a plug-in monitor, adjusting the Saturation and Brightness can help (Neutral is best, but sometimes higher saturation and lower brightness can help)

3. Make sure any other settings that might be interfering with screen colour are disabled (for example macOS Night Shift or Windows Night Light should be disabled).

4. Try different glasses!  NeuroVisual Trainer is built to work with any red/green or red/blue anaglyph glasses, so if you're not getting good results with one pair of glasses, try a different kind.

Exercise Setting

Some exercises (such as Binocular Reading or Line Maze) having varying levels of cancellation available as settings in the exercise configuration screen. This allows you to reduce the cancellation to allow both eyes to see the targets, and to ease the patient into full-cancellation over time.   All other exercise use full-cancellation.
